Squawk codes serve an important purpose in ensuring communication and safety between the A/C and ground. With 7700 established, all nearby ATCs are also informed of the situation and the pilot can land the A/C in whichever way is deemed fit regardless of the rules with ground support on standby. The most commonly known squawk codes are those used for emergency purposes namely “SQUAWK 7500 – HIJACK” meaning the A/C has been hijacked and requires immediate assistance from ground support and law enforcement agencies, “SQUAWK 7600 – LOST COMMUNICATIONS” denoting the A/C has lost contact with the ground and would likely be guided using aviation light signals, “SQUAWK 7700 – “EMERGENCY” to communicate all emergencies onboard. Having the transponder switched off or inputting incorrect values can endanger flight safety. These 4 digit codes are very important, especially during take off and landings to ensure safe separation between aircrafts. If the code is correctly entered, it will be shown on the ATC screens and the flight info will be correctly displayed. Pilots are required to enter these codes into their A/C transponders to communicate with the ground controllers. Hence that gives a multitude of combinations and permutations for the ATC to assign to the aircrafts. How does it work? Photo Credits: īasically these codes are a combination of numbers between zero and seven and do not exceed 4 digits. These codes are not to be confused with “Conspicuity codes”, which are not necessarily unique to an A/C and are used to convey information to the ATC possibly when the A/C is not in radio contact with the ground. Prior to departure all aircraft are given a specific squawk code and this code shows up on ATC screens and helps the ATC guide that particular A/C with their speed, altitude and more. The primary goal of a squawk is to provide effective communication between ATC and the aircraft. The PARROT check is generally done after the aircraft is airborne or while on the runway. The use of the word “ SQUAWK” comes from the system’s origin in WORLD WAR II- IDENTIFICATION FRIEND OR FOE (IFF) system, which was named with the code “PARROT”. Bruce Spence, the gyro captain from The Road Warrior, reappears, along with a child that looks a great deal like the Feral Kid from the same movie, but, apparently, they’re supposed to be different characters here, despite Spence’s character also being a pilot, here named Jedediah. Tina Turner proves to be a nice addition, though it is a disappointment that the role is relatively skimpy for someone with such a striking on-screen personality. In fact, the film wasn’t intended to be a Mad Max film at all, about a group of children waiting for a savior Miller and co-screenwriter Hayes decided that Max could be that guy, and retooled it to fit. Instead, the movie plays like a children’s fable, mixing elements of Barrie’s “Peter Pan” with Golding’s “Lord of the Flies”, then shoehorning in a Road Warrior-regurgitating climax with marauding vehicles against a truck running tire-less on a train track, just to keep the Mad Max purists from claiming a shark had been jumped several times during the writing process. No grisly dismemberments, no rapes, and not much true sense of dread for a world gone mad. Following his ordeal, Max manages to make his way to a desert oasis full of children awaiting the return of adults, and who see Max as a messianic figure named Captain Walker, foretold to come back to them and take them to the fabled Tomorrow-morrow Land with his magic.īeyond Thunderdome is a decidedly less violent film than its predecessors, going for a PG-13 rating, rather than the original’s hard R. The town is overseen by Aunty (Tina Turner), though it is really run by a dwarf named Master (Angelo Rossito), who gets into a scuffle with Max, where the only resolution anyone will abide by is to battle to the death in a caged arena called ‘Thunderdome’. In this film, set a few years after the events of The Road Warrior, Max’s nomadic travels lead him to Bartertown, which, as the name implies, is the methane-fueled hub where anyone can go to exchange something they have for something they need. In terms of my Blu-ray collection, to satirize one of the famous lines of the script, two Mad Max films still enter my player, and one film I leave on the shelf. While there’s a certain admiration one can have for co-writer/co-director George Miller for trying to defy expectations by taking the series in a direction no one would have expected, he also manages to take it to places few really wanted the franchise to go. It’s the first to be funded, at least in part, by a major Hollywood studio (Warner Bros.), and that also means there will be a lot of corporate suits trying to provide input on where they think the series should go to be profitable. The third in the original Mad Max trilogy, Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome represents the most expensive film in the post-apocalyptic series, as well as (arguably) the least satisfying. My wife is short ( 5'5") and our driving positions are fairly close in this thing. If you can accept the size and understand the limitations that come with that and that 30+ mpg out of an AWD SUV (CUV) usually means sacrificing the power of a V6 or large displacement 4 cylinder, then you'll find yourself falling in love with the Encore. I'm really trying to discuss negatives I've found with the car, but in reality, I'm really having to think hard of things I don't like about the car. It's very nimble, the AWD system doesn't seem to impair the ability to maneuver tight radius turns either. I worried that the short wheel base might be a problem for stability as I found I wasn't a fan of 2 door Jeep wranglers when I had driven one, but it really doesn't affect the handling of the car at all. They all come with a rear parking camera anyway, so use it and the side mirrors and you'll do fine. The side mirrors work well for viewing behind the left and right sides though, so if you are used to using your mirrors as they are intended, the rear C pillars become less of an annoyance. The rearview mirror is also small, but it gives a clear view of what you can see behind you. One other complaint would be rear visibility.the C pillars are pretty big, and the back window small. Buick does a pretty good job of insulating you from most of the noise, but the motor isn't going to inspire anyone with a penchant for performance or exhaust note, but it does sip fuel decently for an AWD potato. The only real negatives I can give about this car is the lack luster performance of the motor and the buzzing noise you get out of small displacement 4 cylinder motors as they rev up. Long distance driving was a noted plus, which for us was important due to the desire to begin doing more out of state driving. I did a lot of research before settling on this car, and owner reviews have been overwhelmingly positive for comfort and owner satisfaction. The raw cost of replacement parts for the Encore are reasonably priced, particularly due to the fact that the Encore chassis is shared with 4 other models around the world.that helps keep the cost down. Currently the weather has been -35F with highs of -10 and it starts right up and takes very little time for the engine to warm up and get to heating the interior. I like that the Cargo cover stores in the vehicle just by sliding it up and down behind the back eat engineering Buick! Overall what put me on buying the Encore was the fuel mileage ( averaging 27 in the winter and fill ups are only 11.5 Gallons! ) and we are averaging 250 mil plus per tank. Cargo space with the seats up is limited with the seats up, but it's tidy and tight and gives you plenty of room to do a weeks worth of grocery shopping for 2. Newer models have a touch screen infotainment center, but after a couple of days getting used to the large button layout and center control knob, setting up the radio as well as the personalizations this car has to offer was pretty easy to figure out, and fun to play with. No adjustment on the level of heat though, would have liked to have that. There are 4 zones that heat up, so you can find a good spot to heat your hands and maintain control, as well as off the zones to take a break. Ours has a heated steering wheel as well, and as my wife said shortly after driving it "every car we buy from here on out is going to get expensive." as in, heated steering wheel is no longer an option. Heated seats are HOT at the highest level and don't take long to get there and you can easily find a setting to turn it down to for long term driving comfort. I can't … say enough for its winter performance. Around corners in town, I can encourage a little bit of slide, but it corrects it immediately and brings the car to a solid heading. I haven't had a situation where it didn't just get going. Active stability, ABS and AWD make it a hoot to drive in the snow. What I mean is, while it's not the quickest to accelerate, our AWD Encore Premium gets out of its own way well enough. |
